Headed out to Arches yesterday to do the Three Gossips West Face route. At about 7am, the sky was blue.
By the top of the second pitch, the wind was whipping us so fiercely that we were actually blowing back and forth at the anchors. Rope management was a major issue and they both blew off and got stuck continually. Most normal people would have bailed but the epic nature of the climb compelled us to continue. The apocalyptic pictures taken at the top were well worth the beating.

It always amazes me how powerful the wind is just a few feet above the ground. It attains its full force with no friction from the ground.
And how you kids get them ropes up there in the wind is beyond me. You tie rocks on the end or somethin'?
Way to stick it out!!

The wonderful part of wind is you can't see it, only what it is carrying.

Once the wind was blowing so hard that I couldn't swing in to reach the next rap anchor so I had to rappel off the end of the rope and drop 4-5m onto a ledge.
Very invigorating!

Mucho respect for windy ascents. I had a near disaster in the Organ Mountains of New Mexico because of high winds, was lucky to bail with only leaving 1 rope behind.
