Wow, Ives is the magazine's "longest serving employee", with a tenure of less than eight years. Sounds like there's been a revolving door there for a while. Congratulations, and good luck!

Doxx while that might be true , remember the mag went through a crash in '08 along with the rest of your economy & things looked pretty bleak until the mag was phoenixed from the fire.
Katie might be the "longest serving employee" but many of us have been with the mag from issue 0 including the nefarious Jer Collins.
Very fabulous to have Katie take the tiller.

Nice to see her photo and bio since we've never met.
I just got an email from her yesterday. From the sounds of it,
she has some new and thought provoking articles in the pipeline.

She's worked with me a few times in the past and I was thouroughly inmpressed. What I really loved about how she operates is that she didn’t try to change my wording, or story telling, unlike some editors. Instead she would ask certain questions to invoke more thought process from me to help tell a better tale.
Congratulations Katie! You rock.

If her tenure at the mag is eight years, then she would not have been around during its heyday.
The magazine has been in decline for a few years now, punctuated only now and then by quality content. I used to rush to the local store to buy the latest issue; now I go in trepidation, expecting to soon feel deflated.
If I were the new editor, I would go re-read the first dozen or so pieces cover-to-cover. Those issues are the standard.
And yes, for God's sake, bring back the tall format. Also, bring back the climbing notes. Why did that go away?

It is very difficult to get great material for the little money Alpinist has to offer. I think Katie does a great job considering she has basically no staff and no resources to work with.

Yea Katie! I love that woman even though I have never met her in person. She pushes me to expand my potential while allowing me to maintain my voice. This is awesome.
F.Y.I. While the taller format was sexier the new one allows all the printing to be done cost effectively here in the USA and not in China. Where do your priorities lie?

Uhhhhhnnnnnn...........dude?
The magazine started up in '02. Ten years ago. Ten minus eight is TWO. Yer sayin' the magazine had two good years and has been in decline ever since?
Respectfully I say yer full of shite.
