Anybody know where North of Eden starts on North Dome in Kings Canyon? I have a couple topos for it but no approach beta and I don't want to waste the morning next weekend scrambling around hoping to stumble upon in.

I think it's in the red box in the picture

I'm thinking nobody is going to know this, but I'll give it a shot

Sorry, I don't know, but I'll bump hoping this stays up long enough for someone who does to answer.

Nice photos, though.

Not sure on the start, but I like your posting style.

M3 team will be down there memorial weekend.

did you see the massive rock fall and blast zone last year on the slab area?

There is the start, right behind the storm clouds.

Like El Cap but without all the paparazzi.

I don't recall even scoping this out. I just saw the line, walked-up, scrambled towards the corner system and did the route; no big deal. However, I recall a 2nd ascent attempt was foiled on the 'approach' pitch. Uh, I hope you enjoy WIDE cracks, as the route is close to being an entire wide crack route that includes some Leavittation, an 'Ear' type O/W and runnout face. We placed NO bolts on the route. I believe Brandon Thau eventually made the 2nd, and had no problem.

This rock fall? Heard about it but haven't checked it out myself. Maybe new bouldering?

Thanks Mucci, I'm good to go!

ec: Am I in the right area? I have Nettle's topo so once I'm close I'm sure I'll just figure it out. Thanks

If you aim for the longest corner system, should be no problem. The area you bracketed looks like it.

Nettle Topos are rare, and very detailed. You should post it. I'd like to see his take on the ratings.

Here she is. Posting this topo feels weird. I don't recommend anyone come try this route, everything in Sequoia/Kings Canyon is horrible and Yosemite has many great climbs.

Funny thing, I suck at wide cracks. Adventure time!

WTF?! So why bother even starting threads like this? Totally ridiculous...

'North of Eden' was one of the cleanest, bad-ass climbs I'd done in Kings. I recommend it to those who want a long, quality wide route.

If you aren't good at wide, I wouldn't recommend this route, because you'll never cheat your way up the thing.

'No Where to Run' is quality too (except for the leafy approach pitch) and has all sizes of cracks and is highly recommended.

^^ gotta agree, why even mention this or post that sweet topo you got.
this 'sport' is about personal responsibility.

little over me for the wide for sure but its great to see this stuff and to dream no?

Sorry, sarcasm is hard to type.

I just figured posting a topo attracts people, so I could balance it out by writing something like that and keep enjoying the SEKI solitude!

My bad, and thanks for the info ec

Go get it Kid!
Way to seek out adventure where its a little tougher to find these days. I caught your sarcasm. Go get on the route and thrash up it....style or no style it will be a big adventure. Take a small camera and post up afterwords. Stuff down there doesn't get done all that much.

Send it!

Some photos would be great! I got some shots, but nothing exciting. When Todd was on lead, he was hidden, then when I was on lead, no one thought to shoot. There are some cool passages there. Looks as if the 2nd ascent kept the ratings 'as is.'

Will do. I wrote "next weekend" on Wednesday but I meant the one after this (May 12/13). Climbing Levity's End on Moro for sure Saturday, but still waiting to hear from my partner about staying Sunday for North of Eden.

Sunday is mothers day, he has a kid, he has a wife, we'll see what happens...

Sorry, no North Dome trip report. We climbed Levity's End on Moro on Saturday. We only had Sunday morning to climb so we did a few routes on Little Baldy and headed back to the wives. Still a fun weekend!

North of Eden is still on the "to do" list, so hopefully I'll get some pics of it here sometime.

Until then, here are some Levity's End shots! (we thought there should be an R on this, but it was great)

some nobs

and some cracks

and a real big rock! I'm in blue, Tom's in grey
