the hell of grad school
Topic Author's Original Post - Apr 25, 2012 - 12:52am PT
Hi, supertopians!

I've been alarmingly stuck in school in Phoenix Az. Finished masters TODAY!! Today!!! Yaaay!!

I am jonesing for that lovely east side climbing. I have a little climbing-friendly dog, so Yos is sounding less laid back right now. Eager to hit Pine Creek, and/or Gorge, it's been 2 years! but open to suggestion. After being so focused on school and not getting to climb constantly like I used to (i've been 2 days in last 3 months), I admit a rope gun or someone who likes to be the leader wouldn't be such a bad thing...i admit it! :0) Leaving Phoenix tomorrow night or Thurs, got til May 5+ depending on how it goes. Technically expert, safe belayer, can lead if easy. Used to be solid. Can't wait to camp in the pines! Help!!

Thanks for reading

long is ok but as speed is safety i am likely currently qualified as unsafe. As in...school= endless study= not enough climbing=level goes way down=sucko!
still gotta stash the dog somewhere if it's to be a long day. got a house?

Ideally i'd like to enjoy some fun and not too stressful days after the long time I've spent hunched in front of a computer getting soft. Starting out with a 10 pitch climb is not an especially wise plan IMHO, unless it's butt easy. I am not super great fan of having to board the dog either, but if something comes up for one day I would be willing to consider boarding him in Bishop or Mammoth. Until this afternoon I had simple fun plans for Pine Creek & Gorge with someone but looks like that might not happen now. Hence this post.

Hey there, Im simple and Id love to gorge it up. Whats today, wednesday? Im free after sunday night, for about 6 or 7 days as a matter of fact. Id love to hit some gorge and pine creek. Rock creek looked fine too. I usually camp at the pinions, temps are great, I was there last week. I know the eastside pretty well, Im a pretty good partner. Let me know if youre interested.

I sent an email BuddhaStalin. The pines are in my fantasy right now. Sounds perfect.

Yes noskin I prefer mostly cragging at this time. This changes based on fitness and recent climbing--i.e. I get sick of cragging at a point. Yes the dog can stay in the truck during some days, what are you thinking of? I am going to be careful not to commit in my enthusiasm to something I always wanted to climb but am not in appropriate condition for -- grad school and tendonitis have helped me with the concept of realism, alas. After rude awakening past 2 years at steep stout crags near Phoenix I may surprise myself and feel very at home back in the Sierras...after all, it's where I've climbed the most in my life and pretty much its where I learned. However make no mistake I'm a moderate climber at this time. It is what it is.

Cybele,

Depending on which way you're coming you're welcome to bivy at our house in Josh/29 on the way. We've got a cramped schedule but could certainly get out to Holcomb Valley or even New Jack City for bolt clipping - then you could just keep on....head'n on to the eastside. Nice way to break up the drive from Phoenix to Bishop which I've done oooohhhhhh tooo many times.

Keep it in mind and email me to firm up a schedule if that's any interest.
