On Sunday, June 3 the Idyllwild Climber’s Alliance will be hosting the Second Annual Climber’s Festival in Idyllwild. In the morning volunteers will work on the three main climber’s trails in Idyllwild while the alliance’s ambassadors will distribute educational materials to climbers as well as an invitation to attend the barbeque and raffle. The big project for the day is to put in new stairs down to the Suicide trail. The day will wrap up with a barbeque, book signing, and raffle.

In 2011 the Festival brought out 40 volunteers and we are hoping for 50 this year. We raised $250 for the Access Fund last year and this year are hoping to raise $300 for the Alliance. This event is sponsored by: the Alliance, the Access Fund, and the Southwest Section of the American Alpine Club. We expect further help for the raffle from our friends in the outdoor equipment industry.

Please RSVP to jlucke@cmc.edu.

GDavis: I did talk to Ben at Nomad and they will support the festival to some extent.

Mooch: I haven't talked to Bruce directly but assumed Ben would pass along our interest.

Thank you both for your interest and hope to see you on June 3.

so... I have discovered that expenses related to volunteering for bona fide non profit organizations , Access Fund being one, are tax deductable. Including mileage and bridge tolls, equipment.. did I say equipment?
anyway I'm now keeping receipts and check lists ..do event T shirts count as uniforms?

anyway this appears to be a worthy event
bump for Idyllwild and the Aroma Cafe

I heard that Riverside County put the nix on the repair/replacement of the stairs leading off the road to the Suicide Trail- the project was more complex than anticipated. Too bad- those stairs are a mess. Perhaps a project for a future Festival, or another impromptu climber event?

The stairs will clearly require a plan to abate the run-off and a support base provided for the left side seen as you are going down. Some serious weight will have to be moved I think.

Is the Alliance set up as a 501(c)3? If so, I will make a note of my mileage.

Fixing the stairs down to the Suicide trail is a bigger project than we anticipated. If we can figure out exactly what is need we can ask the Access Fund to help with the cost.

The Idyllwild Climbers Alliance is now a Public Interest Corporation but not yet 501 corporation. We are broke now but hope to have money in the bank after the raffle. We are getting some good help with prizes from Nomad Venture, Sports Chalet, Aroma Cafe, and Rab.

Unfortunately we can't serve beer at the Town Hall so you should be able to get in some climbing in the afternoon!

Looking forward to seeing lots of Tacos.

The Idyllwild Climbers Festival will start at the Idyllwild Town Hall with coffee and pastries between 8 and 9.

We will enjoy having Mike Graham from Stonemaster Press with us, bring their new book The Valley Climbers.

We will finish with a raffle and we have some great prizes.
