Only info I have is that Mike passed while on a climbing trip to Colombia- his mother posted on his fb page.

A unique individual and a warm person- you will be missed.

I'm so sad right now! You will be missed my friend! I had a great time with you on half dome. I will never forget the time we spent together.

I would have let you drink all my beer if I had realized I'd never seen you again. Too bad my ego was huge back then... Farewell Mike!

Dang, I never knew the guy but I took my Supertopo name from an inspirational photo I saw of him in Alpinist.

Condolences to his friends and family.

I had the pleasure of climbing two el cap routes with Mike. He was a proud partner who lead his A4 pitches and perfected the art of "pretending" to be awake in the morning. Mike gave me many of my best bigwall memories, including both of us having our hands so full of Red Bull and Cobra that we couldn't hold any more even as he was trying to dig out more for later in the day. "Dude, can you hold this?" "Um, my hands are already full"

Mike, I'm sorry I didn't dig deeper in the pig to find your beverages, my arms weren't as short as I acted like they were, I'm sorry I made you lead Sun and Steel in the dark (sort of) and I'm sorry we didn't climb Aurora together, but man, I know you would have hated all the bathooks.

Mike and I became friends in Prescott in the late 80's. He was one of a kind, a climbing lifer. He really walked the walk. I couldn't log onto FB witout getting IM'd "Bobo, El Cap this fall?" and him rattling the names of routes off. He seemed to always be somewhere cool, climbing something hard. I miss you Mikey! See you soon...

LOL, atch. Mike was a Facebook pro. I barely knew him, but he'd climbed with J a few times...notably on J's first trip to the Creek. J doesn't really do FB, so I log into his account every couple of months and let him know if has any messages or requests. Mike requested a chat every time I did this. Last night, I clicked on the little icon for his unanswered chat requests. It said "Mike is offline," and this made me cry. I hope he was having great time in Colombia. My condolences to his mom, the rest of his family, and close friends.

I will remember Mike for being nice to me when the people that he was climbing with were not.

Very sad. I met Mike briefly last year in Yosemite and clearly remember his very bright smile and genuinely happy attitude. My most sincere condolences to all his friends and family.

what a really sweet thing to say about a friend... there are just some folks in this world, that have a way of being special, like flowers, in the midst of weeds...

i am sorry for the loss of your friend, and your times of chat, i know you will always cherish that small treasure
(i have some dear friends that are too far away to see, and i thank god everday that i can email chat)....

Damn! I only met Handsome Mike once or twice when he was staying down in the old Potero Chico, Mexico. Everyone knew him of course since he stayed the entire season and would hook up with new partners often. I think he climbed with a really cool, Canadian woman who also was down there for a while and living out of her VW Eurovan. She would send work from the Internet cafe to keep the bills paid.

Mike was missing a tooth, wasn't he? Damned funniest looking guy around and the nickname was great. Sorry to hear about his passing. Anyone know what happened to him?
