If I had a black cat I would name him Johnny Cat.
Love his music, all of it. His cover of 'Hurt' is eerie. I saw an interview with Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, creator of the song. He is actually flattered when people think he is the one doing the cover.

Johnny Cash was a humble yet very defiant man. He had his problems, but he pushed on. I think June is why is went so far. She kept in check and also gave him something to live responsibily for.

He was an American classic whom I admire very much. Much like Willy Nelson. And Glen Campbell. And Waylon Jennigs. I'm not into country-music either. But these guys were just very likeable and uniquely American folk singers.

God bless 'em all.

This is one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs. I think Boondock Saints make it just that much better.

I'm not too keen on Cash and his music, but then it's very American in nature.

Some years ago, I attended an Access Fund conference in Estes Park. When I arrived, chatted with the registrator, who said "Have you heard that...?" I said, "Yes, Leni Riefenstahl has died", and he said "Johnny Cash died". The mention of Riefenstahl made it climbing-related, and we had a beer in memory of both.

Johnny Cash was the real deal. I think part of his appeal is that we got to see his genius along with his flaws. Something we can all relate to.

He has quite a progeny. His daughter, Rosanne Cash is wonderfully smart, thoughtful and witty. Her Black Cadillac is one of the most moving albums I know. It's about dealing with the loss of three parents in the space of one to two years. And he has some talented granddaughters as well.

I always have enjoyed Johnny Cash songs, and his personality, and I do find it interesting that he & Bob Dylan were friends.

Make's it hopeful that today's folks with different political values can discover they have more than politics in common.

A tale of two artists - Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan

A quote from the story:

The same way Dylan sings a Hank Williams song on a backstage couch, Cash breaks into Roy Acuff's "The Great Speckle Bird." You can almost see music shooting around in both their heads, muscling its way through whatever else is going on.

Come the end, that's the best thing about both these superb films. They're all about music, which is what Dylan and Cash are all about. It's easy to get sidetracked by other dramas, since neither led a mistake-free life, but in the end, that's not what's most interesting to explore.

Watching how music snakes through their lives and getting a sense of how it shaped what came and has come out in their records or in their shows, that's interesting.

This other one is on a very much more positive note. Johnny Cash does it way better than Simon & Garfunkel. He has the right voice for it. I've already posted in the Standing Strong tread. I think.

Can't believe I missed this thread the first time around.

Johnny Cash is one of my all-time favorite people, and a true American.

It's really hard to imagine how any true American couldn't like Johnny.
