hey there joe, say, just a "side note", as i just peeked in here and happened to notice where you were from/or climbed at...

say:
say your "icon" mentioned santa cruz mountains and los gatos...
our family grew up "trekking/enjoying" those areas... we loved it so very much...

god bless...

(back to flouride's thread--just loved the mountains and coast there, flouride, so i stepped in real fast for that... )...

You're not a witch Flouride, don't know who'd say such a thing but it's not true. I appreciate your contributions.

its scary but it seems to me that many men on this site really hate women.

Juan pulled his post it looks like.

I've witnessed quite a misogynist tendency by a few here also, particularly from the same group of "progressives".

Not quite sure whats up with that..

There are more female posters than you might think, and far more lurkers.

Sorry if I've been hard on you TGT . . . your posts can be a bit effete, but I thought you were a guy . . .

And please document the progressive / misogynist correlation, I'm kinda' tired of the usual right-wing "seems like" = fact/reality.

Most people here think I'm a dude. Just like most people think everyone on here is straight, and probably white as well. So maybe a lot of the people you think are males are actually females?

GD, name 'em.

In the past there have been great female climbing chicks here. But you gotta admit, there are WAY few more today than in the past.

Seriously. Other than L & TR, there isn't a whole lot of participation.

i'd be sad if you were to leave, Flouride. i rather like your posts. and L's.

there are of course small minded, angry people who can do no more than rage and insult, among us. quel surprise... me, i just skip such posts (and the obviously angry political and _way_ OT threads in general). that and i find my [PgDn] key works wonders (and that i have mentioned this rather a lot of late.)

there is much outstanding stuff posted here -- it's just that you (and me) have to pause a moment to seek it out.

i myself believe that the most, and certainly the best, of those who post here are not misogynists, nor angry morons. you've just gotta be selective and skip past the poop (including mine) on threads that inspire you.

^,,^

(and recognize that "witch" is a compliment -- even if the twerp who spat it at you didn't know that. for at least a millennia, 'witch' was the word used for really smart, really independent women. take it as such -- then perhaps have compassion for the moron who launched it at you. that and think [PgDn] key...)

"Seriously. Other than L & TR, there isn't a whole lot of participation."

Considering I practically live here, that stings a little bit!

It's true that there are women here posting under the radar. I have met some. They purposefully choose usernames that aren't gender specific, and they make an effort not to give themselves away. For the most part, it's because they either don't want to pandered to - they want their posts to stand on the merit of the post itself - or they don't want to be hit on behind the scenes. There are other reasons too, of course.

While I don't doubt there are some women who have "gone away" because it can get ugly here, and the misogyny(which absolutely can be seen in a small number of posters). But whom among us hasn't encountered that type out in 3-D?

For sure it's a bit frightening to see it being acted out. Scary, understanding that the anger sometimes seen here...well, I don't know about anyone else, but I have had men on the sidewalk tell me they could "rape me and no one would care," "slit my f*#king c#&% throat" and other pretty psychotic things. When you have that kind of stuff go down.... it's pretty harsh to see i here. Even in milder forms, even through the safety of a monitor. I guess the good news is that one can make a mental note to stay away from such users if they come across them at the crags.

I don't think telling "the guys" that "if they want women around, they have to...." will do much good, sorry to say. People are people. Supertopo is an organic experience. It is what it is, and though it does morph through stages, that isn't really within our ability to control.

Frabkly - I haven't felt a need to go away, even in the few times when I have had a people ganging up against me. And I have a pretty traumatized background. Maybe that actually comes in handy, because some of the stuff I see going down here(misogynistic prattle, loutish remarks, objectification, and my personal pet peeve: the elevation of photshopped "beauty" to that of an expected standard) doesn't seem very dangerous to me.

But yeah - I have made notes of guys I wouldn't let near me outside of crowded situations in events like a SushiFest or Facelift or whatever. Women too, to be honest(though not here on Supertopo).

I encourage women who aren't posting to participate. I hope they will.

Hooooly shite....that's an amazing load of Krap®, even for you, TGT. Shall I post up one of the all-time scummiest misogynistic slurs ever posted here on ST by one of your well-known Repug cohorts?

No, I won't do that. Just do us all a favor, put the crackpipe down, willya?

"Do you really want nothing but guys posting here"..?

No, please!!!!!!

I respect most if not all the women who post here. There are a couple I don't understand, but, that's only because I have limited capacity to even understand people in general anymore.

Lady's have to be thoughtful, speak truth to jackass's who call names.

Personally, I don't have the time to get into it with these weak sauced male jackoff's.

If it were their forum.. what would it be? Dick waving?.. lots of dick waving.

The one thing I think needs to happen is more TR's from the ladies of this forum. I've only seen a few posted, many of you flouride, but few others. Where's crimpergirl climbing these days? Happigirl climbing? Who Kuan? Skip is always fun to see mid-climb.

Oh, wait... it's frickin winter.. nevermind that..

but yeah, I'd like to see some of the ladies doing TR's, no matter how strong or weak they are.

Hey, ladies.. If you go climbing.. and you take pictures... post'em up with a story. It gives me a chance to armchair travel (in my mind), and see beautiful women doing something I love to do.. (they make it look a whole lot better than I ever could, that's for sure)

Nevermind that A-Holes that post after your comments. Don't take it personal. Just call them on their tinni-penni and move on if they get to you. You could mention that when you met them at that one crag, and they behaved so like chimps, you kinda knew they were unable to control themselves in any real form.

SIU - Suck it up - get past the shitttheads that prowl this site..... you have too much to offer to get hung up on tini-peni's.

Everyone calls everyone else names! To say that you are being called names because you are female is ludicrous.

It's the internet - grow a thicker skin. The reason people jumped all over you for suggesting separate forums for different stuff, is because it had been suggested about FIVE THOUSAND TIMES already, and everyone here knows nothing has been done about it, and never will, because the free-for-all format seems to work. So people were annoyed that you were attempting to beat a dead horse.

For what it's worth, I have asked for years that there be two forums, one for climbing stuff, and one for non-climbing stuff, but have grudgingly come to agree it's better as it is.

I was going to do a "Taco Belles" thread a few weeks ago but forgot to start it. Maybe we should.
