To all 5 of you who know the place... can you drive in to the rocks or do you still have to park and hoof it in? Gracias- Tom

Also, any recommendations for Easter Slab?

Hoof it, it's been closed to vehicles (Wilderness) since the '94 Desert Act.

Just like the drive in from the aqueduct towards the Cartago rocks, although fisherfolk typically open the road one way or another...

DAmn. I heard it was now open. It's just such an average kinda place, the walk sorta kills it.

The road has been reopened now, due to a semi-recent law suit by a local man.

Loomis, Brandon Thau and I will be out that way first weekend in March. Are we battling you for a spot on Greg's couch? I also got to hang with Leventhal last weekend. Pretty cool guy who has been around and knows tons. Really fun to meet him and climb with him. Did you ever convert your slides to jpgs?

Easter wall is definitely a hoof. I was up there a few years ago, replaced the rap anchor on one of the climbs, southern comfort I believe. Have fun.

Loomis, I'm pretty positive that it is still closed despite what you heard.

Basically it requires an act of Congress to remove Wilderness designation, so no lawsuit can just open a road in Wilderness.

Slater..... they made a little pile of stones blocking the dirt road.... now you can walk the extra 1/2 mile..... now that it's pristine wilderness, you can enjoy yourself in the pure solitude of real wilderness. Thank you congress, we really needed all the extra wilderness.

Don't forget to hit up the "County Line Crags" and the "North County Line Crags" .....

I'm willing to walk 2.5 miles for Needles, but it's funny how a .5 mi is iffy for Heller. Although the M&M route is pretty darn cool. I bet the bolts have fallen off it by now though? Has that place seen any love, or is it all rust and dust? County Line... i think Inyo Face is on the agenda too. Depends how much we can cram into two days.

Heller rocks is sort of a poor place to climb. It's really stupid to close a dirt road leading to it, all in the name of "protection" Ha ha ha ha ... it's a joke...that gets really bad when you look at how absurd it is.

But now it's "saved", remember... no power drilling.

Dug up an oldie...

With the gate closed, is there any camping in the general area?

Park and camp anywhere. If you need a campground, try Walker Pass.

Thanks - figured I could (and prefer) to camp right at the gate. Think that would be ok?

Yes, the "gate" or pile of rocks or whatever is there to prevent driving all the way to Heller Rocks.

I have not been out there before - what is the area like?
